Austin is relatively warm and humid year round. This allows for indoor-outdoor spaces all year. The town is very focused on living an active lifestyle which is made possible by the moderate temperatures the majority of the time. December, January, and February are the coldest months of the year while June, July, and August are the warmest.
Regional Character
Because Mueller is an up and coming area with new developments being built rapidly, the architectural style is relatively modern with a slight Spanish influence. Clean, horizontal lines characterize the majority of the buildings that have been recently built. The emphasis on outdoor spaces is almost as prevalent as it is on indoor spaces. The community as a whole is vibrant, active, and focused on sustainability. (Regional, n.d.)

The Blank Memory Care Community located in the Mueller area of Austin, Texas will provide a welcoming and engaging environment for residents suffering from dementia. Elements such as high ceilings and high end finishes will provide a sense of grandeur as if the community is a luxury resort. At the same time, the MCC strives to create a sense of community in order to prevent loneliness and depression through a variety of common activity areas such as a greenhouse, a spa and salon, a theater, and a bar for mock drinks and socialization. Not only will these areas allow for interaction, they will also promote physical and cognitive activity. Other elements that will support this goal include a gym with a pool, tactile art, and wandering paths, both indoor and outdoor. A relatively neutral palette with blue and gold accents on opposite sides of the building will combat the symmetrical floor plan, in turn helping residents with wayfinding. In addition to color, landmarks such as elaborate chandeliers and soothing water features along with the use of memory boxes in the residence halls will further strengthen the building’s wayfinding. MCC aspires to provide its residents a place to call “home” while slowing the progression of their disease through physical and cognitive activity and socialization.
